"Ain't Life Grand/Part One"

Artwork by Patrick Maloney

February -- June 2006

Patrick Maloney is a Marin County artist and teacher, who has inspired creativity in his students at the Canal Community Alliance and San Quentin prison over the years. When Pat was presented with a Marin Community Foundation individual grant, it was FOMC's own Chuck Curley who presented it to him.

Pat is the Marin Master 2006 at the Marin Art Festival. .

His large bold brightly colored painting and sculptural pieces fill the walls of the Redwood Foyer like no other show to date. The art really gets people talking! As for the artist himself, he offers this:

Artist Statement - A Conversation With Myself.

•"So, you think I need a statement. Must I say anything?

It's up to you, don't if you don't want to.

•But I like pleasing people...

Who will care if you do or if you don't? ...

•But maybe they will think me cowardly or dim ...

Most of us have better things to think of than whether you're dim or bright.

•But all my work is here. I should tell them what it's all about.

What can you say ... it's a mystery to yourself.

•I can tell them I like to be surprised and discover things.

Dear God. How can anybody your age be surprised by anything?

•Well, what's the point of going on if there is nothing new to discover?"
